These days wedding gowns are available in a variety of colours.
More and more brides are stepping away from the traditional white gowns and choosing a dress, simply because they like the colour.
However all colours have many meanings here are a few examples:
White : associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity and virginity.
It was taken for granted that the bride was both pure and innocent on her wedding day, hence the ‘ White Wedding’ tradition.
Ivory : Same association as white, although Ivory was known as a symbol of tainted innocence.
(Purely old school thinking) nowadays brides like the Ivory colour as it looks good with their skin tone.
Red : can symbolize many things, love, infatuation, strong emotions, excitement, energy, strength and Passion.
But don’t count out that the bride simply wants to make a statement and stand out from the crowd.
Pink : Represents an innocence, a child-like persona, also freshness, purity, love and good-health.
Pink is normally associated with women and their femininity.
Blue : Associated with water, represents calmness and peacefulness, but also conveys femininity, life, purity. Can symbolize stability, and life- long security.
Black : Although frowned upon for a colour choice, Black can also be a colour of elegance and class, represent power, sexuality, formality, wealth, mystery, depth and best of all sheer style and beauty.
These are just a few options available out there.
Don’t be hampered by tradition, it’s your day to celebrate and the one special day of the beginning of a new life.
So go on. Be Brave. Be Bold.
Most of all Be You.
